Sunset at Maunganui Bluff
Maunganui Bluff is the edge of an ancient volcano that formed the rocks and soils of Waipoua's landscape today. The volcanic centre was originally 12km out to sea.
Maunganui is a traditional tapu (sacred) mountain of Te Roroa, the local Maori iwi (tribe). After 130 years of Government ownership, Te Roroa are patiently awaiting its return.
