Own Transport - Public Transport - Maps
We are located at the south end of the Waipoua Forest, 48 km north of Dargaville and 35 km south of Omapere on State Highway 12.
Follow State Highway 12. Approaching from Kaikohe, Opononi or Omapere, we are on the left just after you leave the Waipoua Forest. If you see a notice board for the Trust, you have gone about 100m past the entrance. NB take care driving or riding through the Forest - the road is narrow and has very sharp bends, and the scenery is distracting!
Approaching from Dargaville, we are on the right just after passing through the small settlement of Katui. If you pass the Department of Conservation sign for Waipoua Forest, you have gone 200m too far. One day we shall get a sign put up...
There are regular bus services to Dargaville from Auckland. There are also some services from Whangarei. We can pick you up from Dargaville BY PRIOR ARRANGEMENT - phone (09) 439 5678 or (09) 439 6874, or log on to this site and e-mail us, letting us know the date and time your bus arrives. Or we may be able to give you details of someone you could travel with. Or if you're feeling independent, walk about 2 km west on State Highway 12 until it leaves town and start hitching a ride. NB while New Zealand is generally a safe country for hitch-hiking, take sensible precautions.
